English
The teaching of English at Lollypop Creek Primary School encompasses all areas of the English curriculum including Reading and Viewing, Writing and Speaking and Listening. It is taught using a workshop model that is reflective of our school Instructional Model.
English Workshop Model (reflective of our school Instructional Model)
Our English Workshop approach is a literacy teaching structure that involves:
The integration of the three English language modes: Reading and Viewing, Writing and Speaking and Listening.
A sustained block of time on this learning area that is uninterrupted.
Whole cohort, small group (differentiated or collaborative learning) and individual teaching.
The use of the gradual release of responsibility practices to support student learning.
The use of texts as a core resource in teaching sequences.
It is broken down into a variety of areas that include:
Differentiated and Systematic Phonics Teaching
Systematic Teaching of both Syntax & Punctuation (Grammar)
Whole Group Mini Lessons (for Reading, Viewing, Writing and/or Grammar)
Guided, Differentiated Work (for Reading, Viewing, Writing and/or Grammar)
Teacher Led Small Groups (for Reading, Viewing, Writing and/or Grammar)
One on One Conferencing (for Reading, Viewing, Writing and/or Grammar)
Whilst the English Workshop consists of the same learning foci, it is delivered slightly differently at each year level, depending on student needs.
